i'm just sayin'

Regardless of party affiliation, congressional women deliver more federal projects to their home districts and sponsor and co-sponsor more legislation than their male colleagues. In a study recently published in The American Journal of Political Science, researchers from Stanford University and the Univ of Chicago attributed women's political success not to some innate political instinct but to the fact that it's really hard for us to get elected (there are currently 360 men and 75 women in the House; 83 men and 17 women in the Senate). They theorize that women feel immense pressure to measure up, so instead of meeting expectations, we surpass them.

i'm just sayin'

Woman mature into healthier eaters.  Studies show that while too many kids are eating junk food (20 to 33 percent eat it three times a week), girls are more likely than guys to lose the taste for it after adolescence.  This may explain why you haven't been to a Taco Bell since high school.

i'm just sayin'

Woman have the power to reassure.  Participants in a 2010 study who were tapped on the shoulder by a female researcher invested significantly more money in a wager than those patted by a man, leading researchers to theorize that contact with a woman triggered a confidence boost similar to the one they received as children from their mother's touch.

i'm just saying

... and death is a woman

in Neil Gaiman's cult-hit comic book series, The Sandman, Death was a hip young woman who would spend a day every century living and dying as a mortal to understand the value of human life.  While there's no proof that woman are kinder than men, this version of Death is certainly more empathetic than the scythe-wielding Grim Reaper.

i'm NOT just sayin' we're better - or even stronger - than our male counterparts, but we do have certain advantages!

germy germs

on average, an adult can touch as many as 30 objects within a minute.  yuck

1.  Have you ever seen anyone wash a restaurant menu?  Studies show that cold and flu viruses can survive for 18 hours on hard surfaces.  Don't let a menu touch your plate or silverware and wash your hands after you place your order.

2.  70% of the lemon wedges perched on the rims of restaurant glasses contain disease-causing microbes.  Researchers have ordered drinks at 21 different restaurants, they found 25 different microorganisms lingering on the 76 lemons they secured, including E. coli and other fecal bacteria.  Order beverage without fruit.

3.  Condiment Dispensers, yuck again.  now I have to sanitize the outside of the condiment bottle?  sheeeeesh

4.  Bathroom handles.  no explanation necessary

5.  Bathroom Soap Dispensers harbor bacteria and grow as the soap scum builds up especially where you touch to dispense the soap.  Looks like my hand sanitizer is getting another workout.

6.  Shopping carts and those yummy free samples.  again, no explanation necessary.

7.  Airplane bathrooms - see above and buy more hand sanitizer.

8.  Doctor's office - bring your own magazine and remember that germ droplets from coughing and sneezing can travel about 3 feet before falling to the floor.

Lesson learned:    HAND SANITIZER  !!!    STAT  !!!

the best blow job

seriously, what did you think i was talking about?

Blast you, hair gods! While we covet the long, smooth, miraculous manes of our favorite celebs, for most of us the reality is more of a frizzy, dry, limp brillo-pad-like mess.

But before you reach for the razor to initiate a fatal crazy-Britney-like bald ‘do, remember that those fab celebs don’t just wake up with va-va-voom hair! It’s all attributed to woman’s best friend, the blowout. Hair genius, Alli Webb, decided that even non A-listers should be treated to a little every day hair glamour. Alli invented Drybar, the famed salon dedicated to the art of the blow! No cuts, no colors - just $35 banging blowouts. It’s a speedy sanctuary for those who want hair luxury without buyer’s remorse. We got the ‘in ‘n out’ hair queen to divulge Drybar’s secrets to a wavy, beach-y summer look, also known as the The Cosmo-Tai.

For Curly hair:

1.  Separate hair into four sections.  Use a medium round brush to get the curl out of the root.  Blow your hair towards the front of your head (make sure hair sis super-dry before moving to step 2).

2.  Using Velcro rollers or a one-inch barrel curling iron, take small vertical sections of your hair and roll (or curl) them away from your face.  If using an iron, hold the curl for just a second or two.  You want to create a loose wave, not a defined curl.

3.  Flip your head over, run your fingers through to "mess" it up, and then lightly apply a pomade to ends.

4. Voila!

For Straight to wavy hair:

1.  Rough dry your hair.  Smooth out bangs or front pieces with a round brush.

2. Proceed step three above.

3.  Tah-dah!  All done!

sad face

after the "great" weekend we had (but not the part where Jamie's back was bothering him), i am so sad to be home and alone.

the girl time was WONDERFUL and the dogs playing at the school and the house was so FUN and spending time with Tom and seeing the house he's building was EXCITING.....

and now we are home....... alone.

I'm not complaining about being ALONE with Jamie but it was just SO MUCH FUN WITH AMY!!!

Lazy Girl Shortcuts

Use a bit of foundation on your lips before applying lipstick.  It will help your lipstick stay on longer

Slightly heat your eyelash curler before using it to lock in the curl

A dab of Visine will take the red out of pimple

If your face turns cherry red after exercising, use an ice cold towel on the back of your NECK for two minutes.  This will help reduce the redness in your face.

Baby oil is great to add to your daily moisturizing routine for a bit of extra sheen.  In a pinch, a pea-sized amount can act as a shine hair serum before dashing out the door

If you ran out of your usual shave gel, no worries!  Use conditioner - you'll actually get a better shave and your legs will unbelievably soft afterward.

Olive oil is great to use on dry skin.  To treat areas like your feet, apply generously, put on socks and then head to bed,  By morning, your feet will be super soft,

Ventura Holiday

The drive took FOREVER!

Between the friday-get-out-of-town people and the people going to the fair, we lost about an hour and a half but we eventually made it.

flying past the nuke plant

and getting through Los Angeles and then:

and finally on Amy's street in Ventura

We met up with Amy and she took me to get our haircuts at "Pinups" and I loved my stylist.  Here's a quick video that I made for Mom.  What do you think?

and then we went shopping!

I finally go my new Hello Kitty Bag that i've been dying to get for a million years!

and I bought a new pair of shoes..... just like Amy's that she bought the day before.  I'll have to take a picture and post later but I LOVE them.

We found this nerd  y Hello Kitty with glasses and sent the picture immediately to Kasey!!  She LOVES it.

Speaking of Kasey.  She was a Maid of Honor in Cerrie and Jack's wedding this weekend in California, Maryland.  (lol)  She's sooo pretty.

then there's this picture which looks more like Kasey to me!!!

and here's me and my bestest!

and us again!

no caption needed for this photo, huh?

and even Pookie enjoyed the sunshine and the wind.

I'm not going to even go into the hotel room we had.  I'll leave that for another post.  Fair warning:  it was pretty ugly.

final words:  I loved being with Amy and Tom.  Jamie had some back problems (may have been from the bad bed) so he wasn't able to go out into the ocean, which bummed him out but I think he had an okay time.

I know that Pookie and Weasel had a good time with lots of chasing and biting.  I guess they had a good time.

i miss Don today and i have no idea why

Nurse reveals the top 5 regrets people make on their death bed

1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people have had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.
It is very important to try and honour at least some of your dreams along the way. From the moment that you lose your health, it is too late. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.
***I am so in agreement with this but...... easier said than done.

2. I wish I didn't work so hard.

This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children's youth and their partner's companionship. Women also spoke of this regret. But as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.

By simplifying your lifestyle and making conscious choices along the way, it is possible to not need the income that you think you do. And by creating more space in your life, you become happier and more open to new opportunities, ones more suited to your new lifestyle.

***I regret having to work when Kasey was growing up.  I regret the men in my life when Kasey was growing up.  I will never ever feel good about any of that, no matter what, never.

3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.
Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.
We cannot control the reactions of others. However, although people may initially react when you change the way you are by speaking honestly,in the end it raises the relationship to a whole new and healthier level. Either that or it releases the unhealthy relationship from your life. Either way, you win.

***Speaking honestly and being honest with oneself is not the easiest thing to do in the midst of turmoil or what we perceive to be turmoil.  Only later do we realize the intensity of it or we realize that it was just a dark cloud that needed no special attention.

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved.Everyone misses their friends when they are dying.

It is common for anyone in a busy lifestyle to let friendships slip. But when you are faced with your approaching death, the physical details of life fall away. People do want to get their financial affairs in order if possible. But it is not money or status that holds the true importance for them. They want to get things in order more for the benefit of those they love. Usually though, they are too ill and weary to ever manage this task. It is all comes down to love and relationships in the end. That is all that remains in the final weeks, love and relationships.

***I promise to not lose touch with those I love.  I will also not be sad when I attempt to keep in touch and they can't reciprocate.
5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.
This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called 'comfort' of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content. When deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have sillyness in their life again.

When you are on your deathbed, what others think of you is a long way from your mind. How wonderful to be able to let go and smile again, long before you are dying.

***I vow to be more content from this day forth.  That's ll I have to say about that.
