roadtrip to Ventura/Morro Bay

we leave in the morning and will stop and have lunch with Amykins in Ventura.  I can't wait to see her and introduce Pookie to her,  She did start the wheel turning to end up purchasing my little "anderson pooper."  It's time they met.

Don called tonight and I almost missed his call.  I screamed.  I left my phone in the dining room while i started packing and then i realized i didn't have it near me... looked at the clock and it was 658pm and he was scheduled to call at 7pm.  i screamed.  but he called back, thank goodness.

he still sounds bad but his speech isn't as slurred.

again, i am anxious and scared.

Don update

well, we're going to Morro Bay this coming weekend.  This is the weekend that Kasey is going to see Don too.  i didn't want to intrude but after the phone call from his doctor, i have to see him soon.

in summary:  his afp or afl or something like that count was 8 last December.  last week it was 1500.  they are sending him to the outside oncologist again.  the doctor said that Don's speech is slurred and his memory is bad from the liver disease.  they removed 25 lbs of fluid not 15 and there's another 25 lbs still in there.  the doctor said that puts Don's weight at around 140 lbs.

the doctor called me monday morning and Don called me monday night.  yes, his speech is slurred and he can't remember things like when he called me last.  he cried the whole time and is worried he won't get to see us.

i couldn't think of anything else to say to him except that he better hang on or i would kick his ass.

we are headed there friday morning with pookie.  we shall see how that goes.  Kasey and i will see Don on saturday and Jamie and Kasey will go see him on sunday.  i've asked Jamie to only stay for an hour so that Kasey can spend some time alone with him.

i'm anxious
i'm scared

Floral Infused Olive Oil: Rich Beauty Aid

Did you know olive oil is a lovely (and natural) skin moisturizer? Here’s a way to make it more special…infuse it with flowers picked fresh from your garden!

Flowers & Olive Oil - Tipnut.com
Flowers & Olive Oil - Tipnut.com
Floral Infused Olive Oil Recipe
Ingredients:
Glass jar (pint)
Flower petals (1 1/2 cups)
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (1 3/4 cups)
6 Vitamin E Capsules (400 IU)
Directions:
  • Fill a clean jar with your choice of fresh flower petals or buds. Pierce the vitamin capsules and squeeze the oil into the jar on top of the petals.
  • Heat olive oil over medium heat then pour over petals. Seal and shake jar gently to mix.
  • Place the jar in a sunny location and turn it over daily for 2 weeks.
  • After 2 weeks, strain the oil to remove all petals then bottle in a sterilized container.
Tips For Use
  • Use as a bath oil (2 to 3 TBS) or apply on skin after bathing/showering and use as abody moisturizer.
  • Apply to dry patches of skin on hands, elbows, knees, feet.
  • Can be used as a facial moisturizer, be careful not to get the infused oil in your eyes.
  • Some believe that eczema, rosesca and stretch marks benefit from applications of olive oil, try a regular treatment to see if it helps.
Flower Choices With Reported Skin Healing & Therapeutic Qualities
  • Echinacea, Lavender, Marigolds, Rose Petals, Pansies, Calendula
  • Herbs can also be used
Note:
  • Do not use petals that have been sprayed with chemicals, they’ll transfer to the oil and then be absorbed by your skin.

cold weather and biscuits

well, biscuits are WONDERFUL but time consuming.  i just can't see myself making them EVERY DAY but i could eat them every day.

Pookie Update in Pookie's words

what i've learned:

i must see someone at all times or at least be laying on them in some way

i like to pee and poo when my mom does

i don't like her laptop especially when it's on her lap

when i pee or poo, it's guaranteed that if i sit down in the kitchen, papa will give me a treat, EVERYTIME

I can almost get on the couch if i get a running start but until then i will continue to leap for my bed and bank myself with the couch and then climb up the stairs that papa fixed up for me

i could't get up the steps with my long unstuffed, furry weasel toy (sorry, weasel.  we haven't met yet so don't be mad).

Now i can get up them because mom tied the weasel in half (sorry, weasel, luv you).

and here's how cute i am

my POV and i can almost make the couch

how can you resist my puppy eyes?  seriously..

even when i'm biting

Don update

so sad that i'm updating this today

don had 15 lbs of fluid removed from his stomach yesterday.  he sounded terribly.  they drained it while he was conscious.  is that normal?  will have to ask Micah.  he says they are going to monitor him to see what happens.  he said he was having difficulty holding things in his hands.  he just sounded so bad and crying.  he's worried about Kasey coming out there next weekend and not being able to see him.  i told him, she's headed to him no matter and stop worrying about it.  she can deal with the "system" when she gets there.

i'm going to call his SW tomorrow and ask him to check with doctor to get more information.  don doesn't want me to come out this weekend but i don't know if i should wait.  he's going to call me next monday and thursday, so i am hoping that he sounds better on monday.

i confess....

sometimes i wear a comfy pair of socks inside the house for three days.

just sayin' and thought i'd make you laugh and go...... huh?

Pookie Update

footnote on yesterday's post

i'm still trying to deal with hearing my very sick brother cry from prison.  and i'm still trying to deal with how emotional it feels inside of my head ALL THE TIME.

i'm still trying to deal with our unemployment and why i feel like he isn't doing more to find work when i'm not looking.  how selfish is that?   i know that we're okay with unemployment but i want to get the hell out of here.  i want to make a home somewhere else, preferably near family, but i have just had enough of san diego and all the yuckiness around it right now.  i want a yard where there's room for plants and veggies.  i want a yard for pookie and i to sunbathe in.  i want a street outside my door that doesn't have cars that are going 50 miles an hour and where i don't have to listen to the drunks at the am/pm on the corner.   am i asking too much?  well, i beat myself up for wanting more than i have right now.  i hate the talking in my head.

Don update

when the social worker called this morning said he talked to the doc (amata) and they are going to see if they can control ths swelling with drugs and diet.  which is what they've been doing since he left the hospital last time.

don told me that he was put into the hospital hole for two days. he went in on thursday and they put him in the hole on saturday.  they said he was misusing his drugs which i think means they think he was hoarding or selling his meds.  he said he was so pissed but he didn't cause any problems.  he was trying not to cry when he told me.  i asked him if he was misusing his meds and he said not any more than everyone else.  i am going to have more words with him regarding this on thursday when he calls. i understand that he needs money and if he's in the hospital, then the guy i send money to, can't get anything to don.  so, that means i would have to send money to him directly and they will then take 50% of it.  this is fucking ridiculous.  i am going to confront don and tell him he can't not take his meds.  period

the doctor told the SW that he would not recommend a compassionate release unless this (monitoring meds and diet) doesn't work and that people with this disease have lived for a long time.  okay, wait, really?  cirrohsis of the liver is not something you LIVE with, period.

this all hurts my head.  i just wish something would happen.  jme get a job.  don die.  i know that sounds so shitty of me but damn..... i'm tired of worryng about all of it.

Pookie Update

pookie had a shot today and then something that they had to shoot in his mouth and he did just fine.  then we went over to the spa and had a quick pedicure while i was given a lesson on how to trim his nails.  we'll see how i do.  the girl dog trainer there really didn't give me any insight on how to get him to leash better and no advice on the biting he's been doing.  so to the internet i go to see what i will find there.

otherwise.....

the last couple of days have been me and pookie on the couch or the floor watching basketball games.  well, we weren't actually watching.  we were watching jamie watch the games and now the rains have begun.....

so we won't be going to the park real soon.

Pookie Update

today pookie has been with us for one week!!!

he has had a few new discoveries:

he figured out he can go under our bed..... and we can't
he likes to stand at the window in the bedroom and watch.... we aren't sure what he's watching

he STILL has NOT barked..... not sure why and
he doesn't even bark when he's near another dog

he's been out several times with his leash and harness..... but he prefers to chew on both

he likes running down the hall of our building

he cries when he doesn't see one of us

he's alway at my side.....and i haven't stepped on him yet

and he likes to prance like Bambi

and we LOVE LOVE LOVE him.
