Outdoors

I have been compelled to sit on my bed and watch tv while crocheting.

It's comforting to me.

Mindless little hand movements to tie yarn and make pretties.

But lately I like sitting at the edge of my garden, early in the morning.

By early I mean ten am. I know, I'm a bum.

It's so quiet of people and either the wind is making the trees sing or the birds are gossiping.

I can see through to other backyards. There are no fences. Just rows of trees.  I see other gardens being worked on and children on an outdoor trampoline.

I hear lawn mowers, animals and the occasional car.

It's nice. Wet hair drying in the breeze even though the humidity tries to suck you back in.

And I still have my lizardoes creeping around the front yard.

we spent most of the day in the yard AGAIN

i'm not complaining but boy i sure need a shower when i'm done

i've started "decorating" the garden now with all the things i used to have on our patio (see pictures below)

tomorrow i'm headed to a feed store to buy more seeds

i'm thinking sunflowers, and more onions.

so the boys are tearing down trees and vines at the back of the property and i decided to make a teepee. right behind the teepee is one of our burn piles aka weiner/marshmellow roaster

here's the left side where i've started decorating.  i love this part

and the boys found these shoes under a bunch of brush and they laughed at me when i asked them not to through them in the burn pile.  aren't they fun?

It is so nice in the garden

I'm so enjoying myself in the garden. Reminds me of days with Steph and Carole in UT parking lot.

And that's tonight's burn pile I think. Jamie's favorite thing to do if you don't count the machete.

He sits out here with many fingers of bourbon and a cigar and watches the fire. He is so easy to please.

New heels & wedding shower dinner help

okay, first, i found this IMPORTANT information for anyone that wears heels....

There’s nothing better than breaking open that shoe box to find a fresh pair of heels ready and waiting for you to slip on. However, there is nothing worse than having to break in a pair of heels. Luckily, I am a Jedi Master at the art of breaking in shoes. Here are a few quick tips on how to cut down the time (and pain) of breaking in those new skyhigh heels!

Tip #1: Do it gradually: Bring them to the office. Slip them on while you are sitting at your desk for an hour or so each day. If they are really tight try walking around in them while wearing slightly damp socks. I know this sounds strange, but this will soften them and stretch them out.

Tip #2 Rough them up: Use a small piece of sandpaper (medium coarse) to scuff up the bottom of the shoe, this will help prevent slipperiness on certain surfaces.

Tip #3 Get rid of the pinch: If the shoes are pinching in certain areas simply place some moleskin on the areas of the feet. Then, soak your feet (with the moleskin still on) and the moleskin will expand. Put the shoes back on and wear them around for the day, this will stretch out the areas that are pinching!

Tip #4 You’re a real spud: This one is a tip from an editor friend of mine! Peel a larger potato and push it into the shoe  (make sure it’s big enough to create a bulge). Leave the potato in over night and voila, your shoe should be stretched in the morning!

Tip #5 Bend + Stretch: Loosen those shoes up. Bend them upwards and downwards ( if the shoe permits) a few times. Then, use a hair dryer to blast them with heat for 2-3 minutes then repeat!

i'm so excited....  i've been chatting with a long lost friend.  well, not really lost but i haven't seen her in FOREVER!  she's asked for ideas with a wedding shower dinner for her youngest daughter (four beautiful girls) so i'm scanning the web for some cute things for her.  this is so much fun!!!   I'll keep you posted.

why didn't i know that....?

 

MAKE MASCARA LAST 3X LONGER!! A typical mascara dries out before half of it is used. When your favorite mascara starts getting dry, add 4-5 drops of saline solution or eyedrops to the bottle. Insert your wand and stir and TA-DA!! Fresh mascara! This can be repeated 2 or 3 times until all you mascara is gone. 

 

{is this for real?!} did you know that if you put a wooden spoon over a pot of boiling water, it won't boil over?

To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.

Brilliant! You put toothpaste on the picture's hanger, eyeball where you want your picture hung, press against the wall, then place the nail in the toothpaste spot on the wall. Wipe off toothpaste and hang picture! Brilliant!!!

This technique is so easy, you won’t be-leaf it.

Required time: About 30-40 minutes Skill level: Goof-proof

Ingredients: 4 black tea bags 2 cups boiling water Sponge or spray bottle

Optional: Body lotion Pure cocoa powder

Instructions: When water has boiled, add the tea bags to steep. Leave in for 10-15 minutes, or until tea is dark and cool enough to touch.

In the meantime, take a shower to ensure your skin is oil- and sweat-free. Afterwards, make sure skin is completely dry.

Stand on something you don’t mind getting dirty. If using a sponge, drench it in the tea and wipe all over your body. If using a spray bottle, fill it with tea and spray evenly. Let skin air-dry and apply another coat for a deeper shade.

Tea will stain clothes if wet, so make sure you’re all dry before dressing. The “tan” should last 3-4 days.

Optional: For bonus color, mix cocoa powder into body lotion until you reach desired color and apply for an all-over bronzing boost.

here's my veggies from this great nursery. (Jme had to carry some on his lap and the rest are in the backseat with me).  you can buy plants and flowers and even homemade ice cream AND best of all it has pick-yourself strawberry fields OR you can buy jars of berry jam OR honey.

this is the crazy hoarder lady's house on the corner of our street.  she seriously has a problem but that's a whole other story.  she has these wild wisteria trees/plants/shrubs growing crazy all over her front yard.
