cleaning out inbox and sifting through 'stuff"

FYI:

Jackie Warner Gets Fit

The Thintervention Star Shares Some Fitness Tips

Jackie Warner

It’s not easy being a great fitness trainer. You have to be amazingly fit, super motivational and a tiny bit scary to whip your client’s flabby butts into head-turning tushes.

Clearly, the dynamite celebrity trainer and TV star Jackie Warner is on top of her game. Her 20-pack abs inspire awe, beauty, admiration and fright (is she a...machine??)!

The Thintervention phenom and bestselling author of This is Why You’re Fat (and How to Get Thin Forever) loves sharing her no-nonsense guidelines to getting fit and fab (for instance: “Sugar is the devil”). The best news is you can incorporate her tips right away – check ‘em out!

1. Drink Water. Three liters of H2O per day can burn 50-75 calories and double your energy! An added perk? It clears up your skin!

2.  Lift Weights. Don’t let cardio fool you. According to Warner, cardio is the slowest way to lose weight. To burn more calories faster and add muscle to speed up your metabolism, try resistance training. Concentrate on bigger muscle groups like the chest, back, glutes, hamstrings, and quadriceps. If you are able to do more than 20 reps in a set, you’re being too easy on yourself. Add more weight.

3.  Eat Fat-Burning Foods. Munch on eggs, oatmeal and avocado daily, but limit to one serving. For instance, 2 eggs with the yoke, 1 cup of oatmeal, and 1/4 an avocado. “It’s a one serving equivalent of a good fat that the body needs for production of testosterone that helps speed up metabolism.”

Adios cervezas – there’s a new 6-pack in town.

rain, rain. how can i complain....

we've had the strangest weather the past two years.
i'm guessing that's when i noticed.  the whole world has been dealing with Mother Nature changing her mind so often everywhere.  tornadoes in SW Louisiana, earthquakes in Tennessee.  i wonder what's next.

i remember when i was a teenager, i would write down the lyrics to all my favorite songs.  now i'm not talking about a few pages of songs.  i'm talking about a binder full.  in fact, the binder was a "demin" binder!!!!
don't laugh!  it was the late sixties, early seventies.  what did you expect?  i guess i could have had some kind of paisley or tye-dyed one.  In fact, while packing up stuff, i found it.  well, the binder was cone but all the pages on yellow tinted lined binder paper.

eyeshadow tips

To choose the most flattering eye-makeup for your hair color, personal style, skin tone, and eye color, arm yourself with a handful of great, go-to eye makeup tips, suitable for a variety of eye sizes, shapes, and iris colors.

** Choosing your eye shadow**

1. Satin textured shadows are great for day-wear.

2. Shimmery or iridescent shadow reflects off the irises brightening. the entire eye, making a bold statement. I.e., great for a night out!

3. Pastel colors work well with cool skin tones.

4. Earth colors work well with warm skin tones.

5. Dark eye shadow compliments large eyes.

6. Light eye shadow allows your natural eye color to be the main focus.

7. Avoid matching eye shadow to your exact eye color; but instead opting for a complimentary color.

For Green Eyes -Day: apricot, plum, light brown, khaki -Night: gold, purple, fuchsia, deep brown

For Brown Eyes -Day: beige, bronze, light brown, army green -Night: gold, bold blue, yellow, emerald green, purple

For Blue Eyes -Day: taupe, light pink, light brown, violet, gray -Night: tangerine, silver, turquoise

**For a more dramatic eye**

1. Eye pencils create a smokier effect than liquid liner.

2. Curl lashes ¾ the way towards lids, twice before applying mascara, once after the first coat dries.

3. When using pigment (shadow) that is dark or loose, place a paper towel under your bottom lash line to catch the stray color, minimizing raccoon eyes.

4. Dab a tiny bit of light, iridescent shadow to the inside of your upper lid (by nose) and lightly above the outer part of your eyebrow. This makes eyes appear lively! The key here is to highlight subtly.

5. Lining the entire top lid has a minimizing effect, lining half maximizes.

6. Clear mascara works wonders for keeping brows in place!

update on me....

well, i've really not read or heard of anything that's worth blogging about .....

i'm tired of hearing about Martin Sheen
i still can't stand hearing Nancy Grace;  i think it's her voice
besides, i can't bear to hear about anymore terrible things people do to children
politics is wearing on me and i have so many complaints,
that it waste too much of my time thinking about all of it.

i have been reading my Entertainment weekly magazine and drool over the monthly Vogue magazine.
and Amy slipped me the new Interview magazine and i think i'm going to start saving pictures of fashion again.
a folder with shoes, purses, clothes, hair styles, etc etc blah blah blah

still reading the latest Sookie Stackhouse book but not getting through it as fast as i have the others.
enjoyed Water for Elephants and Kasey is sending me something she's just finishing but i forgot the title or even what it's about.

so what have i been doing?

made a huge pot of chili yesterday
fried rice the day before
Jme helped me sweep the patio and repot a huge mandevillia plant on a trellis and i drafted letters to send to the warden regarding Don's compassionate release and forwarded them to Amy, Daliah and Kasey for proofing, etc.

and oh yea, we were WITHOUT internet for two days and i walked around like a zombie.  thank goodness for my iphone so i could get to email and facebook but the blogging and farming had to wait.

but today we bought a new wireless router and i set up both laptops all by myself.

tonight, i need to make another batch of biscuits.  i have leftover buttermilk i don't want to waste.
tomorrow, we are going to the swap meet to buy incense and mebbe i will find a new plant ..... that i don't have room for.

we'll see

pardon my dust

i have been "monkeying' around with this blog and some new templates so....... bear with me.  pulllllezzzzzzz!

Don update

well, i have to say that our last visit wasn't as rough as i thought it would be.  he's having trouble with retaining so much fluid and i've asked him to go back into the hospital.  he will do what he needs to do.  we are going to start the paperwork for a compassionate release.  before i even start, i'm worried that red tape will slow this process down.

fried rice recipe

it can be adjusted to your liking in so many ways.

Ingredients:

approximately three (3) cups of day old rice  (rice should not be sticky)
three eggs, scrambled well
three carrots, diced
three stalks of celery, diced
one medium onion, diced
two stalks of green onions, chopped
salt
pepper
one packet of Kikoman Fried Rice seasoning packet, added to 2 tablespoons of water
soy sauce
olive oil

meat:  you can put anything into this.  i've used hot dogs, leftover ham, chicken, and salmon.  use about a cup of meat.  leftovers work great.

vegetables:  you can add more veggies if you want.  i suggest cabbage, broccoli, corn, green beans and you can use frozen if you can't get fresh.

in a large pot, deep enough to stir all ingredients, cook the carrots, celery, and the onions in a tablespoon of oil.  once onions are translucent and carrots/celery are just tender, add your meat.  toss for ten minutes over medium heat.  add seasoning mixture, one tablespoon of soy sauce, salt and pepper and continue to toss over medium heat.

once completely incorporated, gently toss in scrambled eggs.

if mixture seems dry, add a teaspoon of oil and combine.

remove from heat, cover and let mixture rest for 5 minutes and serve.

wireless has returned

okay, how addicted am i to my computer?  we were without wireless for a day or so that felt like a week and i was going through withdrawal.  that's sad but thankyousomuch jme for fixin' it!

nuff said.

we're back.... home

first, i have to do what I feel I have to do.  there have been many times in my life that i should have made a "different" decision.  i know that now.  so NOW i have to follow my gut and my heart.  i will have no regrets.

second, i will not do anything that could cause a write up or termination of visitation.  nuff said.

third, because i can't control so many things in my life right now, i am giving up trying to fix it ALL
this is not to say that i "give" up but it means i don't let it consume me anymore.

i'm going to let it go.. and just breath more
stress is a dangerous emotion

second home in Morro Bay

friday night, february 25th

we're visiting Don this weekend and i've already told myself that this may be the last time we visit for awhile.  we just can't afford it.  so i am hoping that we can come back before the end of May.  that sounds so far away.  as always, the night before i see him, i'm anxious and worried and scared to see how he looks.  i'm know that he is excited to see us so i am happy for that.  i just hate that i am visiting and watching him die and we have to do that in prison.
 so sad

bad internet connection here at the hotel tonight.  hopefully tomorrow night will be better

magazine review

Marie Claire
March 2011 issue

SHOES!!!!!!

go there for details:  Lavin shoes

crochet, khaki, organic and lace seem to be the up-coming trend.  reminds me of another era i.e. Benetton

JEANS news

now if i just had the money, i think i have found the perfect jean in James Jeans.  http://www.jamesjeans.us/

Ashley writes a column in Marie Claire called Big Girl in a Skinny World and she says:

Too  many big girls think designer denim is reserved for women with matchstick legs.  News Flash:  James Jeans, a fav of hotties like Cameron, Jessica Alba and KimK, carries up to size 24W (not that anyone but myself needs larger sizes).   What's more, all their sizes come equipped with what I call a "muffin-top buster" - a contoured waistband that is lower in front and higher in back.

TOO MANY ADVERTISEMENTS AND THINGS FALLING OUT OF THE MAGAZINE

speaking of magazines..... check this out

i am hoping for a nekkid superman.......

but i go on.......

Marie Claire bulletin:

The real-life Mr. and Mrs. Smith
"The Company We Keep" Robert Baer and Dayna Baer
A husband and wife true life spy story.

sounds good, huh?  review is pretty good and we already have a visual of what they look like.  who's your daddy?  lol

and the dumb shit award goes to:
really?  wtf?

Book Review:
a memoir titled "I Totally Meant To Do That" by Jane Borden.  Their review got my attention:  Country mouse meet city rat.  A self-professed Southern belle moves to Manhattan in the kooky memoir.

Music stuff:
Adelle
i've been listening to her new cd online at NPR Radio.  It's a great cd and i love all her songs.

the end

okay, i've made it through the magazine and  i think i'm going through withdrawals.  i am craving a pair of nude stacked 5 inch pumps.  i think it's because i haven't bought a pair of shoes in two years.  OMG!  really?  It's been two years.  not counting the cute boots Jme got me for Christmas after i sent him the link.  does that count as me buying a pair of shoes?  hmmmmmm me don't think so

no wonder i'm having head trips all of the freaking place.  okay, it's okay, deep breath, in, out,, in out  okay, i'm feeling better now.  that was close.

i have a woman friend.......

there are women in my life that have come and gone and come back again....

i have a woman friend.  i haven't seen her for a long long time and it has weighed on my heart.  i sent her a face book message inviting her to dinner about three or four weeks ago and i never heard from her which is not like her at all.  i sent another two days ago asking her if i said or did something to upset her and received a response.  she said that she has a lot going on right now and that she's really depressed.  i immediately sent her two messages, rambling on about how i have been secretly dealing with depression myself and that i missed her much.  i only hope that i hear from her soon.  she's a wise woman and i miss her opinion and her insight.  i just miss her.  she was one of the "three gardening girls" and i miss our conversations.  i want to help her if i can.  i think time together would help us just as time and conversations with Amy have helped me.

i have a woman friend.  we have been friends since high school.  i was drunk under a table at her wedding reception.  i remember when she had her two children and i remember when she and her family moved to the mountains and rarely came down after that.  we went on with our lives and the miles between us grew.  now she's way up north near Sonora and i'm way down here.  it's been at least ten years since we've corresponded and at least 15 since we last saw each other.  her sweet daughter, Saige found me on face book and asked me to call.  Debbie had mentioned my name and that she had been thinking about me.  i called and left a message at her home number.  i didn't realize that she was still living up there.  after three long long weeks, she called.  you don't need to reacquaint yourself with old friends and she sounded just as a remembered.  yesterday i received a message from Saige telling me that she has talked her mother into joining her and her family on a Disneyland trip.  wouldn't it be fun to surprise her.  would we recognize each other?

also my friend Jose isn't responding to my text questions about his health.  I've known him for ten years and worked with him at the UT.  he had hernia surgery last November and he hasn't really told me how he's doing except that he's in pain. i believe something more is up but he doesn't want to share.  the hardest part has been not pestering him.  when he wants to talk, he'll call.

i carry so much in my heart and my head that sometimes they both hurt.

the biscuit day!!!

Brian Chesney’s Grandmother’s Biscuit Recipe
February 2011

Recipe is a bit labor intensive but has gotten the “grandmother” seal of approval

Freeze two sticks of butter

4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 sticks butter, frozen and shredded
(potato/cheese grater works well)
1 1/2 to 2 cups buttermilk, plus additional for brushing

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Directions

Sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Cut in the butter using your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center and add 1 cup buttermilk. Using your hands, quickly fold the dry ingredients into the buttermilk until a sticky dough forms. You may need to add more buttermilk.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface.
Gently fold the dough over itself to create layers (I do up to 20-25 layers).
Press the dough out to 1 1/2-inches thick and cut with a floured 3-inch biscuit cutter.
Lay the biscuits on an ungreased cookie sheet and brush the tops with buttermilk.

Freeze biscuits for 15-20 minutes. Putting the cut biscuits in the freezer for 20-30 minutes before baking makes them very fluffy-tender on the inside and flakey golden on the outside.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until risen and golden brown

It works and they are so yummy
Having them for dinner!
just biscuits

Day Two of Rain, Makin' Meatloaf and Don Update

really really high southerly winds last night, whipping my poor plants and flowers all over the damn place.
i did take them down for most of yesterday and all night.
they like the wetness but not the hard southern wind and hard rain.

Making a couple of meat loaves tonight.
one to eat and one to freeze
is there any other way?

Don called today
YEAH!!!!
he sounded great and said he's doing well
i think he holds back and doesn't tell me everything
his way of protecting me
we see him a week from today
DOUBLE YEAH!!!
he's scheduled for a CT scan either monday or tuesday
but won't have the results by the time we get there.  and he was soooooooo excited about my photo card sale!!!  so much joy in his voice.  so much joy in my heart.

change subject:

mom said something the other day that i can't stop thinking about.

every day when we talk, she asks if i've heard from Kas or received that phone message thingies (that's what she calls texting).
she asked, "how come Kasey doesn't call you very often?
if it was me, i'd bug you to call me."

i told Mom, that i don't bug Kas to call me and that's the difference.
"She's not you, Mom."

and as much as i understand she has her own life, i do long for her to call every couple of days and text a hundred times more often than she does but i can't tell her that.  that's not how our relationship has ever been and i can't make her do for me what i do for Mom.  it's a different situation, i know that.

but still....

considering the yucky weather and a little headhurt, i feel pretty good today.  dark clouds over the debating devils in my head aren't so bad.  i've been able to keep them away through this blog and getting my pictures ready for anyone's purchase.  keeping busy helping Jme paint and do other chores, cleaning the house and now getting ready for our road trip to see Don.
